Deputy City Manager, City of Long Beach
Teresa Chandler is a Deputy City Manager for the City of Long Beach with the responsibility of elevating the City’s coordinated efforts related to homelessness, violence prevention, and youth development. She also provides oversight and leadership to the City’s Office of Civic Innovations and the Office of Equity. She most recently supported the team through a racial equity and reconciliation planning process to develop a City-wide plan to eliminate systemic racism by advancing racial equity in Long Beach. The City codified this work in its Framework for Racial Equity & Reconciliation, which lays out 21 strategies and 107 potential plans for action with four goals: 1) Ending systemic racism in all local government and partner agencies of Long Beach, 2) Designing and investing in community safety and violence prevention, 3) Redesigning the Long Beach Police Department’s approach to community safety, and 4) Improving health and wellness in the City by eliminating social and economic disparities in the communities most impacted by racism.
