The Joy of Participation

KATHLEEN RAWSON
PRESIDENT & CEO, THE HOLLYWOOD PARTNERSHIP
CHAIR, IDA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

One of the joys of leadership in IDA is the opportunity to participate. Even if you participate just a little in all of the outstanding programs of this organization, it has tremendous value. Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with the 2020 and 2021 Emerging Leader Fellowship (ELF) cohorts.

When this program started six years ago, it was designed to immerse our colleagues new to the industry into the best practices. It was also meant to foster and identify leaders for the increasing number of business and property improvement areas worldwide and for IDA itself.

The objectives of the ELF program have been met and exceeded. Without fail, everyone I have interacted with who has gone through the immersive – either virtually or in-person raves about the experience. Each cohort has its dynamic, but they emerge a close-knit group of people, many of whom become part of each other’s close network of confidants for years beyond their initial interaction.

I reflect on what my early days in this industry would have been like if I had an experience like ELF to draw upon. Last week I drew energy from these cohorts and I learned a great deal from my visit to NYC. I came back refreshed and energized. Thanks, ELF, for sharing a bit of your experience with me.

By the way – BOOK your flights to Vancouver as soon as possible for the best rates and tag on a few days before and/or after to explore that incredible city!
