'80s Mall Party

In the summer of 2018, we moved our offices into the old Main Street Mall in downtown Little Rock. In the early 1980s, the building was converted into a shopping mall, full of retail stores and restaurants. However, the success of the mall was short-lived and the state of Arkansas wound up purchasing the building and converting it into a variety of state agency offices. That said, the mall’s interior remained untouched, staying a virtual time capsule of a mall from the 1980s. Think glass block, black and white tile, teal paint and colors, neon signs, glass elevators and working escalators. After being in our new office for a while, we noticed that people either had no idea the building was there or had forgotten all about it. It was a space screaming for a throwback ’80s party, and, to continue with our ongoing theme of bringing people to places downtown they wouldn’t ordinarily visit, we turned the idea into a plan, and the plan into execution.
