Join the IDA U.S. Advocacy Network 

Every day, policymakers in Washington, DC make decisions that affect our downtowns and city centers. IDA members bring essential perspectives and unique knowledge to the debate over issues that shape the places that matter to us. By joining the IDA U.S. Advocacy Network, your organization demonstrates its commitment to helping the place management field elevate its voice in public policy and advance laws and regulations that foster vibrant, prosperous and safe downtowns.

As a member of the IDA U.S. Advocacy Network, you will have access to tools and resources that enable you to be a leading advocate for downtowns and city centers.

  • Regular update calls where IDA staff will share the latest developments from Washington and how you can make the most impact.
  • Invitations to IDA advocacy events, like IDA’s annual Capitol Hill fly-in, where you can meet with your elected representatives and their staffs.
  • Advocacy training for you and your team.
  • Resources and information on state and local policy trends that impact downtowns.

By joining the IDA U.S. Advocacy Network, you commit to:

  • Ensuring a member of staff takes part in at least one advocacy or media training per year (in-person at IDA events or online).
  • Participating in at least one quarterly IDA advocacy update call.
  • Considering an annual investment in IDA’s U.S. federal advocacy program.
  • Remaining an IDA member in good standing.
  • Engaging with your federal elected representatives (House and Senate) on IDA’s policy agenda each year. Engagement can include any of the following:
    • Sending a member of staff to IDA’s annual Capitol Hill fly-in.
    • Sending a letter to your elected representatives on a key IDA issue.
    • Arranging a meeting with your elected representatives back home

In return, IDA commits to providing you:

  • Up-to-date information on key federal developments that impact downtowns and how you can advocate for IDA’s issues.
  • Advocacy and media training to you and your staff.
  • Sample op-eds on key IDA issues for placement in local media.
  • Invitations to IDA U.S. Advocacy Network receptions and other gatherings at IDA events like the Annual Conference & Marketplace
