Councilmember Omar Torres, San Jose, CA
Born and raised in Downtown San Jose, Councilmember Omar Torres grew up in a working class family who taught him the importance of community and hard work. Prior to being elected to City Council, Omar was the Business Resiliency Manager for the San Jose Downtown Association. He is proud alum of San José State University, which is at the heart of Downtown San José. In his early days of activism, Omar would do everything he could to improve his community. He started by helping bring Biblioteca Latino-Americana Branch Library, Washington Youth Center, and Plaza de Brenda Lopez into his underdeveloped neighborhood.
