IDA 2023 Board Nominations

KATE BORDERS, LPM
PRESIDENT, UNIVERSITY CIRCLE INC.
CHAIR, IDA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

I recall first getting involved with the International Downtown Association (IDA) through conferences almost twenty years ago. Very quickly, I found myself wanting to have greater involvement, to be more entrenched in the larger initiatives, and to give my time to the entity that was guiding me in this industry. Joining the Board of Directors gave me all of that and allowed me greater access to my peers who are building vibrant urban places around the country. IDA is searching for engaged and talented professionals to serve on its Board of Directors. If my experience resonates with you, you should consider this opportunity for yourself or a colleague.

Board members are leaders committed to IDA and its mission to connect diverse practitioners who transform cities into healthy and vibrant urban places. Board members should be energetic, intelligent individuals who are excited to contribute their time and wisdom to ensure the health and growth of this organization and its financial sustainability. As a working board, members volunteer their time and resources to benefit IDA and its members. Board members may represent organizations, both public and private, that have an interest in the economic health and vitality of urban centers.

  • Please keep the following in mind when nominating individuals to serve on the IDA Board of Directors:
  • Must be a member of IDA or affiliated with an IDA member organization
  • Must commit to participating in quarterly board meetings and an annual board retreat
  • Must commit to serving on at least one committee and helping to generate new resources for IDA
  • In addition to Business Improvement Districts, individuals may represent consulting firms, corporate entities, local government, or other groups that will help IDA build an organizational base in important cities where no effective downtown organization currently exists.

May be representatives of real estate or corporate entities who understand and have been involved in place management organizations.

The Nominating Committee also takes great care in creating a diverse and inclusive board roster. Diversity is sought in the individuals and the organizations and regions they represent. Attached you will find The Expectations of an IDA Board Member as an additional resource for your consideration of individuals to nominate. New board members will begin serving a three-year term following the IDA Annual Conference & Marketplace in Chicago and are eligible to serve two consecutive terms. To nominate yourself and/or another individual to support us in these goals, please provide the information requested and email the completed form to David Downey at david@downtown.org no later than DATE.

Thank you for participating in the International Downtown Association. Your membership is vital to the organization’s ability to think globally and respond accordingly. I can’t wait to see you in Chicago for our upcoming Annual Conference!
